And yet so very far away - their IP address (64.79.161.41) is registered
to OpenSRS, redirected to "http://resellers.tucows.com/opensrs/" IN LA,
    CALIFORNIA, USA.

And yet they are in Cairns...?

Ah - perhaps the east coast mentality struck again, and that there is no
"australia" past Qld, NSW, ACT & VIC...????

There are local ISP that have OS addresses who I know get overseas
    access. example - 1earth.net, ABN: 69 078 004 690.

You may have a look at this.

Are you talking about ISP as in access or web hosting? My (Australian)
business has it's web hosting in the US, but it's a .au domain and we're
based in Victoria... You'd be hard-pressed to find web hosting cheaper
    in Aus than the US.

Agreed... I use to own a national ISP here in OZ... my dial-up access was
brand overlayed on AAPT Connect's network (so I needed no hardware) and my
web hosting servers were located in Florida and Seattle.... so the IP of the
    domain means nothing.

Oh... Why have them in the US.... as mentioned above it is way cheaper.
Aussie data rates are a killer! it has got better since I sold a couple of
years ago, but it is still nothing like the US.
