Auto Connect to Airport Network with WEP - Mac Networking

Default Auto Connect to Airport Network with WEP

    Hello,

I've been using my mac (10.3.3) as an alarm clock (internet)radio for
months. The computer in my bedroom "wakes-up" (switches-on) every
morning at 6 and through the "Login Items" connects to my favorite radio
    station...a dream.

This morning I decided to turn WEP encryption on....well, since then,
the dream turned into a nightmare. My computer refuses to connect
automatically to the internet. When it switches-on, the Airport status
in the menu bar remains desperately grey but if I click on it and select
my network then it connects with no problem....but it used to connect
automatically and I want it back.

    Here are my main settings:
    - Airport connection
    - WEP encryption (new)
    - In the Network settings, I selected to Connect to a specific network (
    and selected my Home network)
    - I disabled all the other Network ports (except Airport) and dragged
the Airport one at the top (we never know)
    - The WEP password has been added to my default Keychain so I made the
Keychain item accessible by all the applications

Other important point: when the computer starts-up, it logs-on to a
"guest" account that is not Admin and doesn't require any password.

All that used to work fine before the WEP encryption so I really don't
know what's wrong...did you folks experienced something like this in the
past ? How did you solve it ?

    Thanks in advance, Pascal

Well, Go to you Network Pref Pane, Select 'Airport' and click
configure. You should be on the 'Airport' tab. If you look you'll see
a "By default, join:" Does it say Automatic?

Nope, it says to connect by default to my home network....this is why
    it's strange.
I've been able to te it. In fact, it seems that as soon as you
turn WEP encryption on you can't connect automatically at startup.....
    strange isn't it ?

Make sure the Location and the "By default, join:" are the same.
