Auto-numbering for chapters

Is there a function/feature which someone knows of to do auto-numbering of chapters within InDesign? We are attempting to number chapters, lets say 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc then inserting a chapter between 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 and having the new chapter now be 1.1.2 and the subsequent chapters automatically renumber.

A 3rd party tool would be fine also, if this feature is not available within InDesign.

tool for ID2/IDCS that can do that five levels deep, I will then send you
the programm file so that you can test it if it fits your needs. Maybe you
have some more feature ideas for another version. I should think about
uploading the file to the Adobe share.
