Default Auto page numbers hidden behind placed graphic

Hi- I added Auto-page numbers onto my master page but when I checked a few of the following pages, the numbers weren't there. I realized that they were in fact there, but were hidden by a placed graphic that bleeds off the page.

How can I force the auto-page numbers to be on the top layer? This issue happens on about 7 of the 16 page document. Can someone help me figure this out?

    Much obliged,
    Rick

Use layers. Put the page numbers on a layer that is in front of the placed graphics.

    Rick,

perhaps it works like in PageMaker (sorry..):

You can copy and paste the placeholders explicitly from
the master page onto the same position on the actual page
(power paste) on top of the stack.

No, it doesn't. Items on a master page, when placed on higher layers
will be above those on live pages. In PM, even when on a higher layer,
items on master pages would still be hidden by objects on the live pages.

    Thanks for the quick responses!

I use tons of layers in the document but for some reason, when looking at the master, I never even thought of it. At any rate, I created a sep. layer for the master element and moved it above the other layers and it's perfect now!

Thanks so much. Oh, come to think of it... I have about 50 layers and name them: page 1, student text, page 2, image 2 etc... Is there a way to group the layers (a group of layers for page 3) so if I need to change the page order, the corresponding layers will still be together? Poorly phrased question, I know... :-)
    Thanks,
    Rick

No way to group the layers, but why use so many layers? You can have one for each *type* of object (1 text layer, 1 photo layer, etc.) that spans all pages. You don't have to have a separate layer for each item on each page. This isn't Photoshop. :) Trust me, your file structure would be much more managable.
