    Default Automated PDF Creation

Many years ago we used to have a server that ran Distiller and we dragged and dropped files onto the server and PDFs were created. Then Adobe wrote this functionality out of Acrobat and brought out the ridiculously expensive Distiller Server. Is it still the case with the current version of Acrobat that one requires the Server product to automate PDF creation?

We are only a small business of about 5 Acrobat users so Distiller Server is way out of our price range. If anybody has any alternative setups or suggestions I would be very interested to hear them.

    Thanks

The license for Distiller NEVER allowed for use on a server. You can
purchase 5 copies of Acrobat Standard. If this is too pricey there are
other vendors of pdf making software. The cost on these range from nil
    (open source) to relatively inexpensive.

Your on a Mac. It has this capability to create PDF. Why don't you just use AppleScript or Automator.

Mike, regardless of what the license allowed, the functionality was there. Also we all have copies of Acrobat Pro. What I am talking about is batch processing of files (Illustrator in fact) rather than having to manually make each file.

Tembowa, the built-in PDF capabilities on a Mac are not as extensive as those within Acrobat.

Since writing this, I have come across various JAWS products which seem a little more financially practical for small businesses such as ours.

    Thanks for all the input.

I know! I mention in my post that we manually make PDFs in Illustrator.
