'automatically embed images' as default
is there a way of changing the default in freehand mx to where any .tif or .eps used in the document is automatically embeded when it is exported?
reason for this need is that once our artists have the approval for a graphic to be published, we have to pass it (as an .eps) along to our front end system for pagination with other elements on our newspages. at times, remembering to embed the image used in the document is forgotten. this often creates stressful 'quick fixes' for the artist who has to hunt down all the elements of the graphic. if the default could be changed to where the image is automatically embeded, this deadline situation would no longer be a problem.

Re: 'automatically embed images' as default
It's in the Edit menu, under preferences, import tab, 'Embed images and EPS
on import'.

Re: 'automatically embed images' as default
As far as I know, all imported images are always automatically embedded in
an exported file, and there is no way to switch this off. How are you
determining that the images aren't being embedded?

Re: 'automatically embed images' as default
you can't easily tell the image is not embeded from the originating work station which hosts the image. the absense of the image becomes apparent when the document is sent to either a networked file server or to another user. when the document is opened and the image is not embeded, an empty box with an 'X' shows and/or a dialogue box prompts the new user to locate the image. in previous versions of freehand, the images were automatically embeded. now you have the option to either embed the image or link the document to the image. with the image embeded, the file is much larger. with the image linked to the document, one advantage is that you can edit the image and update the link without having to replace the image back into the document with each edit change.

document, regardless of your workflow. If you export your document as a
Quark EPS (or any form of EPS for that matter) the linked images should
be embedded in the resulting EPS file. Is this not happening for you?

Re: 'automatically embed images' as default
once the links are established or the images marked as embeded, there wasn't a problem. the problem was that some users were not linking or embeding the images before exporting the document.
my question centered on making imported images automatically embeded or linked as a default. bill answered that question as to how to make it the default.
i was trying to set it up so the images were linked or embeded upon exporting. but, having it automatically done at the image import stage of building the document makes more sense ... and the program allows for under the edit, import tabs.

Re: 'automatically embed images' as default
maybe some users are saving FHMX doc as eps instead of exporting it and could it be the cause for the missing links?
