Avi Problem
Hi,
I have various movies produced in Director 8 which have large avi's (about 40-80mb), an mp3 and flash animations all running at the same time. When burned onto a CD, most of these Director movies play relatively well even on poorer spec computers.
There are a few avi's which playback relly badly, why could this be?
All Director Movies have 'Show video', 'Direct to stage' and 'Play sound' and 'Sync to sound' selected.
Any ideas,
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Avi Problem
When you have multiples members on-stage set to DTS (Direct-to-Stage), you
will encounter playback problems, as the system is trying to give the
resources to those set to DTS. Maybe try disabling the DTS on the flash cast
member and leave for the video...

Re: Avi Problem
why dont you try .MPG files insteads. my experience has show that .npg tend
to be more complatable over different OS, and are smaller in size as
compared to .avi files.
you could use TMpeg Converter to make the conversion.....

avi problem
I tried importing an AVI video file...it was included in the cast, but instead
of the video being there, I get the following message: "Video not available,
cannot find 'vids:dvsd' decompressor.
When I import the avi as a Quicktime, no problem. But as an avi, i get the
above message
Does anyone know what the solution to this is
Thank

Re: avi problem
It means that your susyem does not have the required codec. Definition
borrowed from microsoft website:
A codec (Compressor/Decompressor) is an algorithm or scheme used to record
digital video or audio. For example, when you transmit video over the
Internet, the video must be compressed on the sending end and decompressed
on the receiving end. A codec can be chosen based upon the user's audio or
image quality and image size preferences.

Re: avi problem
The quicktime version works because you already have Quicktime installed on
your machine. The error you are getting signifies that the dvsd codec is
either not installed or not configured correctly with windows media player. It
will be a problem for other users to view that video file encoded with dvsd
because not all machines will have the dvsd codec, so they too will get that
error. A big factor when deciding which player/codec combination to use
depends on how your project is distributed. I would suggest using a more
widely used player/codec such as quicktime/sorenson or distributing a player
with your project that has the neccesary codecs already packaged with it. I am
currently using an Xtra from Starsoft Multimedia simply called MediaPlayer to
playback Mpg encoded .avi files for a winows only cd-rom it works great, cost

Re: avi problem
Thanks for the help. I just found the MediaPlayer Xtra from Starsoft this morning and will use it to play .wmv files in a Windows only CD-ROM. It looks like it will do the job.
