Avoiding font substitution
Our new newspaper just got new Macs and are going through a period of
transition and adjusting.
A lot of our clients send us pdfs for their newspaper ads. When
they're the wrong size it has been my habit to either place them in an
Adobe Illustrator document or open the pdf with Adobe Illustrator. Now
when I do this Adobe Illustrator wants to substitute all the fonts I
don't own.
I understand that it takes time and effort to design a font and the
designers deserve to be reimbursed. I'm not trying to bootleg a font.
I seems to me placing files on my earlier platform would give me files
I could resize but the text wasn't editable. That I could live with. I
wouldn't mind if all the fonts I didn't own were converted to paths or
outlines.
Now pdf files are much more of a pain to work with. Is there a way I
can restore their usefulness?
