    In article <MBHRa.56171$central.cox.net>,
    MG says...

They can. same day air is the magic - but expensive - word.

Works even with customs clearance from Germany to New York,
so why shouldn't it work the nationally as well?

As far as international transports are concerned,
UPS does not as good as FedEx. No way. FedEx is
much more flexible and skilled in that. And I can
say this from the perspective of a German clothing
manufacturer, sending out hundreds of parcels every
day with all relevant carriers. I coordinate some
fashion shows with them, which gives me insight.

Not with B&H, but with many other partners worldwide.

I've had UPS do this to me twice. One of the items left on the
doorstep for most of the day was a Nikon 80-200f2.8 zoom lens worth
about $850. Good thing it wasn't raining or the neighbor's dog didn't
decide to take it and bury it somewhere.

<I suspect, to the contrary, it was a fairly effective way to let B&H know

I think we get it. :-)

    Makes sense to me...
....I think it's pretty foolish to wave signature in the first place when it
    comes to expensive equipment.

I don't either:), because I just placed my very first order through
them today. Nikon N80! My maiden voyage into SLR photography.
It's being shipped UPS. I have to call customer service
Monday to get the tracking number. I assume it'll make the trek to
Kansas by the end of the week.

As an aside, I prefer Fedex also. They will do Saturday deliveries and the
    rates are cheaper overall.

    FedEx?
Let me tell a tale about UPS. In 1999 I ordered a Dell computer and was
disappointed that it had not arrived by Friday. Saturday morning my wife was
yelling..."Scott, Scott, there's a computer in the garage!". We LOCK our
garage. UPS broke in (with good intent albeit) and left it without
signature. The driver locked her back up too.

The next year, our widow neighbor left UPS a note to come get us to let them
into her garage to drop of a TV. She locks her garage. She called one day
and thanked us for letting UPS in the garage. Being that she is a widow, I
could never tell her that her garage was broken into by UPS.

    TRUE!

    was
    them

I had a package that I ordered and had shipped via UPS, and never recieved
it.. Called them up and get, "Oh no! We delivered that package DAYS ago!"..
Who signed for it? (I asked). "Why, you did!" Sure enough, my name was
signed for the package... What address I asked? OOPS!!!!

Seems they couldn't make out the zip or something on the package, (although
it was fine by the time I got it.. hmmm), so they looked into their
database and found someone with the same name as me and delivered it to
him.. "I" had to go knock on the guys door and get my package back..
Hell, the guy was using my stuff.. Gathers it all up and hands it to me..
sure enough.. a clear and ledgible address.. UPS s.

I won't even begin to tell you about the time I had to make a claim on a 21"
monitor that they dropped... boy was that fun.. not.
