background color of stage differs from backdrop - Macromedia Director Basics

When a monitor is not set to 32 bit color, the color of the backdrop (area around the stage) is not the same as the background color of the director movie. It is always a little lighter or a little darker. Why is that? I use hexadecimal colors (#002560 for example). I want them to be the same, how can I achieve that? PC, monitor: 16 bit, 1024x768, dir 8.5 thanks...

    In one of the 2 cases it may be dithering 16 bit colors to approximate
    the specified stage color, while the other cast is just changing color
    to neaest 16 bit counterpart of the original.

    If you can figure out how to select a 15 bit color you may avoid the
    mis-match. I think the RB colors should each be a multiple of 8 (decimal
    )

    I tried some things, but even if the stage color is set to #000000 it show a
    little off white (pink-ish) on the monitor. Strange isn't it?
    I 've once asked MM about this but never got an answer so I guess I will
    have to live with it.
