Backwards compatibility issues with Illustrator CS?
My client's printer has Illustrator 10. I upgraded to CS. I sent them a file in .ai, .eps and now in .pdf formats. They could not open either the .ai or the .eps and the .pdf was incomplete, a gradient fill did not show up.
Photoshop CS includes a "maximum compatibility" option. Is there something I'm missing in Illustrator CS?

To open an Illustrator CS file in Illustrtor 10 you need to export as a legacy Illustrator file.

Re: Backwards compatibility issues with Illustrator CS?
Be sure you're aware of the consequences of saving back to Illustrator 10 since the two versions have different text engines. See this thread:

Re: Backwards compatibility issues with Illustrator CS?
Cesar and Steve,
Thank you for your help. Cesar, that's just what I needed to know. Must've missed it in the manual (I only read the manual after I've worked with the software for several months...I learn best by trial and error--must be an ADD thing.)
Steve, the text issue isn't really a problem since these are primarily illustrations and any text is minimal and gets converted to outlines to avoid font problems. But I very much appreciate the caution and will keep it in mind.
