Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Hi.
I'm working on a project that involves displaying some square-based, multi-coloured patterns created in Illustrator, exported as EPS files and laid out in Indesign and then exported to Acrobat. All fine, but the preview in Acrobat makes the patterns look blobby – squares that line up perfectly with no overlap in Illustrator and Indesign look very different and over-expanded in Acrobat. Similar (but slightly less dramatic effect) when viewed in Mac's Preview too.
Have tried copying and pasting Illustrator files instead of importing EPS files, but makes no difference. Keen to avoid using pixel-based solutions. Any help appreciated!

Re: Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Ali,
Have you tried Output or Overprint Preview? How does it print? What
settings are you using for your export? Personally, I see no reason to
export to eps. Just place the illy files. Why go through the extra step
of exporting to eps.

Re: Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Hi Mike
Thanks for your response. Files print beautifully!
Have tried both the EPS and copy&paste illustrator file options with the same result.
Have tried various settings from 'smallest file size' to 'high quality print', all with the same issue.
The Overprint Preview in Indesign throws up nothing new – is that what you meant?

Re: Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Ali,
No, I was talking about the Overprint Preview in Acrobat. See
Advance->Print Production->Overprint Preview or Output Preview
Again, copy and paste is not appropriate from Illy to ID. You have a
copy of the Illy file (hopefully). Use File->Place. This not only makes
for smaller work files. If you need to make corrections, the corrections
in the Illy file will appear automatically in the ID file.

Re: Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Maybe your 'smooth line art' option is turned OFF under Preferences /
Page Display /?
Otherwise might be worth looking at Acrobat 9 Pro or even Adobe Reader
as a test - the enhance lines option can be toggled on/off as a test

Re: Bad vector preview in Acrobat
Hi Guys
Thanks for your responses again guys. Doesn't appear to be anything to do with Overprint or Output Preview, or Smooth Line Art. This need to work on various users' machines on various levels of Acrobat. Will continue to experiment . . . If you think of anything please let me know!
