Basic table question
CS2
Until now I haven't use tables much. Now I took the chance.
I am in a hurry and have two basic question which I cannot manage to
find the answer for right now.
Question 1:
I place a tab-separated table from Excel in Indesign and convert to
table - format and everything is nice. I have to do the same table
containing other figurs, but I cannot select the text in my formatted
table and paste the new tab-separated text into the cells.
Do i really have to format once more, or paste one cell separately?
Question 2:
Isn't it possible to make a cell or a row style?
I guess the 2 question are related and maybe the answer is xml, can you
give me a hint?

Re: Basic table question
Nina - There are no tablestyles in ID natively. You would have to buy an additional commercial plug-in for it. So if you place an Excel table that is formatted and do some work in it in ID and thyen need to re-place the tablecontent from Excel - yes, reformatting has to be done manually.
There is TableStyles < <http://www.teacupsoftware.com/products/tablecellstyles1_0.html>>
and there is Sm artStyles from WoodWing < <http://www.woodwing.com/smartstyles.htm>>.
And I am sure Dave has a script somewhere... ;)

Re: Basic table question
Nini and Gerald your input are most appreciatet.
I will have a closer look when things calm down.
I did the formatting over again. You are always faster the second time
you know :-)
I did however read the other link about "Moving text into the next cell"
and I got the feeling that this might help me too, but I was too hurry
to try and test - I certainly will do as soon as possible.
I finished the job and it look good, everything was nice.
Then our printer broke totally down. A true delightful Friday.

Re: Basic table question
Gerald - thread next door means nothing to me as I read by digest and never visit the forum except for replying.
As for that thread - wasn't that for moving info around between cells, not for keeping the formattting when re-placing an Excel spreadsheet and thereby replaing done formatting with the one from Excel?

Re: Basic table question
Nini,
Yes it was, but the purpose of my script is to allow re-import of Excel data from the clipboard to an existing designed table. It just happens that it can also be used for that other purpose.

Re: Basic table question
Nini,
I read the forum by opening all links and closing each tab after reading that thread. and I read your "he's gotta have a script" right after closing the tab where Dave posted the link to PopTabFmClip. Which is the script in question. Which does exactly what was asked for: filling a table from the data in the clipboard without destroying the formatting.
