Default Basic troubleshooting tips - trash preferences? Save as?

I'm familiar with a number of InDesign troubleshooting tricks (save as, and deleting preferences) and wonder if there are equivalent procedures or any other general troubleshooting tips for problems with Acrobat and pdfs?

    Would appreciate any feedback!

    Thanks

I saw your questions about content disappearing, might be a bug that has been addressed, make sure you are using the latest version and fully updated with patches etc. If that still doesn't work, load an older version, say V7 and see if that works.

HI Phil thanks much for this.

    These are good tips.

Regarding the fried file, it won't let me optimize — it gives me an error "can't save file". . .

These files are 1.3 and 1.4 . . .wonder if that' part of the problem.

If you emailed the file, you can no longer save it, you have to 'save as' to a different location. If you created the file, it is possible to save it as far as Acrobat is concerned, you might not have permission to save to that location or you may be trying to save over a locked file.

Optimising does not actually re-fry the file. The description of re-fry
(slang) would be to convert a PDF back to Postscript/EPS and then re-PDF
through Acrobat Distiller. The optimiser keeps the PDF intact but can
    perform other clean-up operations.
