battery type for Canon AE-1 - Photography

Is there any reason not to use a lithium battery in a Canon AE-1? The manual doesn't say anything about lithium, but I presume that's because it was written before lithium batteries were invented. Lithiums seem a bit cheaper than silver oxides, but I don't know how the life compares. Alkalines cost about half as much as lithium or silver; is their life more than half as long? -- Ray Heindl (remove the X to reply)...

    In article <168.3.44>, net
    says...

I have an AE-1P manual printed in 1981 that does specify the lithium
    Duracel PX 28 L battery.

They last longer than silver oxide.

You can use them in the A-1, and it's the same "family" of camera's so
I'd assume it's OK for the AE-1 and AE-1Program models as well.

My manuals are copyrighted 1980, so I guess Canon found out about
    lithium batteries about that time.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll go with the lithium.
