Behaviors, flash, what would you do?
Feel free to reply to any one of the items below. Lets have some fun with this!
I've finally got the formatting looking about right, but don't have the
results I'd expected when playing the five flash movies I have embedded on five
separate layers at http://www.realestatemlm.biz/y.html
At this point all five movies are playing at the same time when the page
loads. The fifth is the only one that is seen, though there is a little doppler
effect that goes on and you can hear a fuller audio, which is king of
interesting. But the movie is slowed down as is because of the multiple files
playing (almost) simultaneously and I don't have the effect I'm aiming at. So
let me explain what I'd like to do and get your opinion on how you would
approach it.
First, I would like to preload the files.
Second, I wanted to make the movie, ball5.swf play only after the page has
loaded and a person moved their mouse over certain areas of the screen other
than the already specified hot spots. I can create another very large polygon
shaped hot spot to accomplish that, I think, but don't want to bother until I
get your advice. Basically, if the polygon is shaped over the top and over the
boy (my son, isn't he cute?), this gets ball5.swf playing first without forcing
it on load. That's what I'd like. And I don't mind if per chance somebody
mouses over any of the other hot spots first.
Third, I want any movie currently being played to stop play when a new movie
starts by mousing over one of the four Program hot spots on the left of the
screen. So when the Program 1 button is moused over then whatever movie may
have been playing will stop and the ball1.swf file will play from the beginning
to end, unless of course, the mouse goes over yet another Program button, in
which case the ball1.swf would stop play at that point and the other
correlating movie would begin in its place. Same for Programs2-4
button/hotspots. When those are moused over I want any other movie playing to
stop and start the movie for those appropriate buttons.
Fourth, as it stands, all five movies are playing at once on load and so when
you mouse over the Program hot spots after the initial playing of the movie,
you get the last frame from each respective movie.. That frame comes from the
one layer in flash of about seven, which that makes it any different than any
of the other movies, and I'm certain I could reduce my file size if I knew
anything about dynamic html. So let me say as fourth, I would like to reduce
my file size, but should say up front that I am still a newbie to both flash
and DW8, and am still in 30 day trials of both, although I've had a good start
as you can see, and would not be afraid to tackle any needed action script,
etc. Or better yet ...
Fifth, I have many members and I have a flow through of referral IDs system
for each of the four programs and I would like to dynamically create the whole
page based on a URL, so I'm thinking Cold Fusion might be my next application
to learn. But one thing at a time. For now, I am copying and pasting each
member's web page based on their upline hierarchy. Each member gets their own
site URL to promote. I don't have the new versions out to show you. They are
all still in DW3.0. But the format is http://www.realestatemlm.biz/membername .
What I would like to do is automate this whole process rather than having to
copy and paste then upload a whole new folder for each member when they join.
This process is taking me about five minutes per member and I'm running out of
time as well as server space.
Sixth, some people have said CF is slow compared to PHP or other methods. I
don't know if this is true. I would like to think about scalability as I think
my program has a lot of potential. But I would like to do all the work myself
rather than depend on 3rd party programmers to build and maintain my site. As a
newbie, I've struggled even with simple relational database systems like
Access. I'm told CF is easier than other DB options. So I have to think about
what platform is ultimately going to make the most sense. I'd like your
opinion on what approach might work best.
Seventh and not unrelated, I may want to import the current and growing
database at (or integrate whatever I plan on doing with my current database) at
creativerealtynetwork.com. , which involves passwords and uses DAT files and
lets users add in their program IDs not just for these four programs but for an
unlimited number of programs. So compatibility and integration with whatever
system I now have with whatever I wind up with will be a factor. Most
importantly, I want to learn this and do the work myself. And I need to do it
quickly because I'm already getting a lot of hits on both web sites, as you can
see from their respective hit counters.
I don't know cgi/perl very well. But I don't mind learning. I definitely need
to automate this whole process but will be copying and pasting and eating up a
huge amount of file space in the meantime. Thank you for any thoughts you may
have!

Re: Behaviors, flash, what would you do?
James,
I am wondering about your web server, my browser is waiting for your server to
respond. It is rather dog slow. Not sure what went wrong. You might want to
look into it.
I am not able to determine the gravity of issues you mentioned until I
successfully visit your site, you know.
