Best image software for websites.
Hello, I'm trying out Freehand MX and have used Corel, Flash, and others. A
typical problem I find is antialiasing around the exterior upon exporting to a
jpg filetype. For example a simple dark green rectangle typically will end up
with a light green band around it upon export. This happens in Freehand even
if I set the jpg option antialias to None
Any suggestions for creating "clean" images?

Use an actual app designed for web-based graphics. Fireworks would be a
logical choice, though Photoshop, PaintShopPro, etc. are all suitable.

Re: Best image software for websites.
Hello
If you want clean images, just try GIF format, or PNG which will bet your
needs. JPG is used to complex images with lot of colors (such as
photographies) and GIF - PNG are best for simply images with plain colors, such
as logotypes or images with a few colors (until 256)

Re: Best image software for websites.
Thanks for the heads up on PNG format. It's definitely better than GIF.
Unfortunately it doesn't export any better as to fixing my problem. I guess
I'll just have to go into each image file and crop out the stuff I don't want.
It's interesting because in Freehand my rectangle is 158 x 20 pixels. After
exporting, the image file is 158 x24??? If I crop it down to 150 x 20 it's
almost correct.
If I make the original Freehand rectangle 159 x 22 which would result in 159 x
26. Crop the result back to 158 x 20, I get a clean dark green rectangle again
which is what I want

transparency, you'll have all sort of problems with IE/PC as it STILL
doesn't fully support the PNG format.

FH is not a web graphics application. It is a vector illustration
application. It has some rudimentary and (as you see) somewhat buggy export
options for web formats, but you really need to use an App dedicated to web
graphics production...namely something like MM Fireworks.

Re: Best image software for websites.
have you tried to set jpg quality settings to 90% when exporting from freehand?
i?m exporting with 300dpi resolution, jpg image quality set to over 90%, and
then resizing it in photoshop, when creating preview samples of designs
