    Default Best pci sound card for linux

    Hi All;

    I have been talking up linux with friends, we all play americas army a
    FPSer. I finally got around to installing v1.7, the graphics seem a
    lot better than on winxp pro. But the sound has a three second delay.

    My system is

    msi k7t turbo2 (ms-6330) v5 Bios upgraded.
    cpu Athlon 2400+ (running at 1990)
    1.5gig SDRAM
    on board sound (AC97)
    80g HDD (/, /home, swap) slave drive, Redhat 8 (would redhat 9 make
    anydiff)
    80g HDD (winxp pro) master drive
    Dual booted, but need floppy boot disk to boot linux

    I have done a search on the web and it seems I will need to use a pci
    sound card. Which will be the best sound performer for linux?

    well, i don't normally reply to cross-posts, but the answer to this one is
    very simple!

    the onboard sound should be the equivalent of a pci sound card. why do you
    think you'll need an extra one?

    Hi will;

    Well, because the onboard sound is great except in americas amry (a
    FPSer) the sound has around a 3 second delay... and reliase on the
    ALSA drivers... Not the best :<

    Unless there is another solution...?
