Best way to make a catalog ID 2.01

Posted: 08-25-2004, 10:27 AM
Hi

I'm going to make a new product catalog in Indesign 2.01 and would like to hear your opinion how to best attack the task. Do I create the single pages and the use the "create a book" to add the pages to the catalog. Or do I begin from a simple page and then add the pages one by one. The catalog will be app. 80 A4 pages. I would be very happy to hear your advise

TIA

Tommy

Ask your printer if he wants 80 files each of a single page or would he prefer a single file with 80 pages in it.

Are you expecting information to flow from page to page as you arrange your catalog? Or is each page essentially independent of the others?

Are we talking phone-book like catalogs or Virginia's Secrets style?

Chances are you want to use one file or perhaps two or three, certainly not 80. And with so few pages, you might not need to use the book features at all.

Seconding to Dave, I would suggest to use files with approx. 16 pages each,
so that you can work with comfortable speed, maybe with more than one
person. We did here an 336 page catalog with three people some weeks ago,
with files spanning 16-32 pages, worked like a charm and we didn't used the
book feature to speed up working as I diretly attached the pages into the
imposition tool.

Thank you very much! I'll split it up in 4 and see how it works, again, thanks
