Beware ALAP's InEffects Plugin!!!
I downloaded the demo to test out this plugin and, sorry to say, as much as I wanted to be able to use it, it's not ready. You cannot apply effects if the object is 100% White or Paper.
WARNING!!!
The demo expires after 15 days. If you uninstall it, it will delete every ID file you tested it on, even if you have removed every InEffect from those documents so do not use it on any documents that you need to keep.

Re: Beware ALAP's InEffects Plugin!!!
I should clarify the White/Paper issue. It is possible that the effects don't show up on my screen due to my video card which happens to be a 3D game card and not a 2D card which would be optimal for ID.

Re: Beware ALAP's InEffects Plugin!!!
We recently purchased and installed InEffects, and it seems to be working OK.
I'll tell our folks to test the "white" and "paper" issue but I think they've already done a glow with white text successfully (we seldom print on anything but white paper--mostly CMYK--so we typically have been using "white" and not "paper" anyway).
I'm hoping ALAP, Adobe, or some other party continues on this track and develops InDesign plug-ins to do many of the other effects found in Photoshop, Eye Candy, Xenofex, etc. It sure is a time-saver!
The only downside I can see is that if you share a native ID file with someone they have to have InEffects--or a free viewer--or it's useless. We almost always go the PDF route so that's mostly irrelevant here, but it could be an issue for others.

Re: Beware ALAP's InEffects Plugin!!!
The White issue is a known problem with InDesign 2.x and is an Adone problem, not an ALAP one. This problem has been corrected in InDesign CS.
ALAP support has informed me that running the both InEffects and the InEffect Viewer is an "absolute recipie for distruction" and that I should have been getting all kinds of warnings whenever I opened ID. I never got a single warning. They are also saying that, in some unknown manner, installing both InEffects and InEffects Viewer created a hostile environment and that InEffects is NOT coded to delete documents.

Re: Beware ALAP's InEffects Plugin!!!
If you have InEffects, why would you also install the viewer? Seems redundant. As I understand it, the viewer is for other parties you share InDesign files with (that have an InEffects effect) who do not have InEffects.
I know that last sentence sounds like governmental gobbledy-gook, but it makes perfect sense to me. :-)
