Bezigon problems - Macromedia Freehand

To help me with placement of points I'd construct paths forming an underlying grid and turn on "snap to points". Now when I try to place a point this way, the guide points become selected and my current path is joined to underlying grid path. This unwanted feature makes the bezigon tool much more difficult to use. Is there a way I can turn it off?...

Have you locked the layer containing your guide lines? -Tom Unger

    It's a rectangular array.

Somtimes I will lay down a grid of equilateral triangles. Or rhombi.
    See for example:
    http://tabletoptelephone.com/~hopspage/HopTile2.html

A rectangular grid doesn't work for many of these (the horned monkeys,
    for example)

When I'm building a tessellation it's annoying as hell when the bezigon
tool joins my path to one of the underlying equilateral triangles.

Microsoft World lets you turn off many of their "helpful" features. I
was hoping there is someplace were I could turn off the bezigon's
annoying habit of selecting and joining underlying paths to the current
    path.

you could also convert your guide art to the guide layer. This might be the best solution as you can snap to these guides as well as locking them.
