Big HAIRY emergency - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

Should be very easy to fix, but I can't remember how to do it. A customer on MSDE has hit the 2 gig limit on thier database size but the database has 1.5+ gigs of unused space in it. I can't for the life of me remember how to get it to release the usused space. Ahhhhh! Bob Castleman SuccessWare Software...

Look at DBCC SHRINKDATABASE in books online.

That doesn't seem to do anything. The datbase only has 2 mb "free" space,
but it shows allocated 1.8 gig but 1.5 gig as unused (from sp_spaceused).
So shrink only shrinks it down to the 1.8 gig since ther is no 'free' space.

is it unused log or data space?

once you know what database file it's on, try

    DBCC SHRINKFILE(<logical filename>, TRUNCATEONLY)

Take a look at the FILLFACTOR (all of them).
