Default Big problem saving ILLUSTRATOR 10 files on a LAN server

Hi,I'm writing from a graphic studios in Italy. we have a serious work flow problem with Illustrator 10, on MAC OSX 10.3.2 (apple G4 dual 886 1Gb RAM),on 100 mbit LAN.
    I explain the matter:

    - we use an internal 100 Mbit LAN with a pc server configured to have MAC partition and folder where we save our projects (used since 1995, without problem using old MAC 0S 9.1 with Illustrator 9 Italian version)
    - that partition give different permission to different user.
    - we have upgraded to MAC OS X 10.3.2 and to Illustrator 10 italian version.
    - we begin to save our project to the server (without problem)
    - then when we try to open them and save again, we get this message: "impossible to save the illustration, the is in use"
    - this message appears to the admin too
    - and then the application creates some temp file that we cannot erase, also when the application is closed.

We have this big problem, we cannot save any file on server if these aren't final release of our project, otherwise nobody have the permission to modify and save them.
Anybody could help us, with this big big big problem?

Thanks for every kind of help.

I am having the EXACT problem as you described. I have been searching this forum for an answer and I did read one that said don't save a file to the server. So I am going to start saving my files to the desktop instead. I have a file named "delete these" on my server which contains all the temp files that cannot be deleted. It is very frustrating!!!

Apparently you're supposed to turn off the auto protection in Norton Anti Virus (general preferences).

If you have Norton Anti virus I would not only turn off the auto protect I would remove it.

What if you don't have Norton Anti virus? What is causing the problem then? I can't find a NAV control panel.

I had this very same problem a long time ago and upgrading to 10.0.3 was supposed to fix it. I remember that it didn't work at first but after I upgraded, the problem sort of just dematerialized.

I do know that saving to a PC network from a mac is bad news. In fact, I've always been told by the IT folks that it's bad practice in general because it's an additional avenue for curruption to settle in. You really should save locally and then transfer after you're done. I know it breaks workflow and that it's an extra step that you technically shouldn't be taking, but it happens all the time.

Just yesterday I saved an Ai file directly to the network and it was corrupted when read back in.

Edit: You should be able to see a hidden file in the folder that you saved it. You can actually unlock it and rename it I believe. You can only view it from a PC but you have to make sure you have "show hidden files" checked in the view options. It will be a string of numbers and/or letters. It's been a while since I had this problem.
