    Don't know if this has to do with anything...

    I get that message in Quark 4 if ASCII is checked in the prining options box. I just check the Binary box and it's fine.

    Hi there.
    I'm not really sure what's going on with the ascii binary thing, but I do recall reading something in the Photoshop forum that Photoshop CS now defaults to ascii for eps files. I have had a couple of problems with linked eps files in AI CS not showing up, and when I changed the format of the eps import to ascii it showed up - until the next time I opened the file. Subsequently, wherever possible I use tif files and psd files as links with no drama.

    I don't know if it's all CS apps or OS X, but something is definitely going on with the eps format these days.
