Black background in images
Sometimes I produce PDFs with black backgrounds in images or the image is entirely black.
I'm a prepresser and familiar with best making a PDF. However I noticed that the exportfunction in Quark sometimes results in what I described above.
What could be the answer to this strange behaviour?
I now have a from origin WORD doc that is converted to PDF with PDF creator - GNU-Ghostscript 7.05. and I get black backgrounds under images. How come?
Because I do not have the native doc I want to remove these backgrounds in the most simple way. Any suggestions?

Re: Black background in images
I've had this problem before when printing to a postscript file and trying to distill it, but only Adobe Illustrator files would be black. Using Quark 6, Creative Suite Premium all updated to latest. Now I just use Quark to make PDF's as Quark doesn't have this problem. Doesn't seem anyone else has this problem, at least that I can find, so I've since given up trying to solve it.

Re: Black background in images
I would stick to just going through postscript and then Distill with an
option such as PDF/X-1a
Also - examine your original ingredient files - such as overprint
settings in your illustrator objects ..
Turn ON the overprint preview under the ADVANCED menu in Acrobat and try
again ...
Come back with any findings and we should be able to reach a conclusion ..

Re: Black background in images
But what about a recieved PDF from a customer and one must try to resolve the problem, cause that is what's happening here. I don't have the native document. A lot of prepressers have this problem. Don't come up with stories as; learn the customer how to make a PDF, cause they don't know how. I'm only interested in what to do with these black backgrounds under images, because they print good but RIP bad...

Re: Black background in images
... and what makes you think this forum is not full of pre-pressers ... ?
Do you know if the file is good - or maybe the RIP is bad .. or both?
Good for old or new RIPs? Any composite/double byte/identity-H/Asian
Fixed Width fonts?
Good when the trap has been lost (yep, it's normal these days in a
composite workflow) - but built back up on the CPSI? Or if any in-rip
trapping libraries have been purchased by the printers (not always
mandatory)?
Any changing of knockout/overprint by the workflow before being consumed
by the renders? Or even if you have turned this ON or OFF within your
copy of Acrobat ....
If the printer is placing native PDFs in non-PS3 applications such as
Quark 1,2,3,4 and 5?
Your PDF - created, re-created ... re-fried .. compression and
re-compression on all variations of normal and copydot objects?
... and finally, has your PDF passed a well used ISO 15930 PDF/X-1a:2001
or 2003 preflight to ensure the file *should* (forgetting all the above)
then fly through ;-)
