Black text?

Hey guys im typing in fireworks, and instead of seeing the text, all im getting is black boxes (see pic 1) the only way around it is to set the outline colour to anything except nothing (see pic 2) why is this happening? what can i do to fix it? i tried re-installing but no joy?

Do you have the same problem with standard fonts like Arial or MS San Serif?
