    Default black underprint from quark

When creating a text or picture box in quark, the object has an identical object underneath of it in solid black when a pdf is created. For example, I create a text box in quark and fill it with blue. Then I print a .ps, distill with distiller and open with acrobat. The resulting pdf has a black box underneath of the blue, same shape and size. If the box was created clear with black text, the resulting pdf is a solid black box, text obviously not visible.

When i uncheck the option in distiller "let .ps override adobe settings" the problem goes away. So I assume the problem stems from the .ps creation and becomes visible in acrobat. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I tried posting this in the quark forums, but no one was able to answer the question. Any help greatly appreciated.

At last I found someone with the same problem. I'm not sure itvuser what it is, because of the many ways one can make a PDF in Quark. I now get PDF's with the same problem and I cannot get my finger on to it. I think it's defenitly something with the creation of a .ps, which can be done in many ways. The export-function in Quark is done with an in-build rip (I was told). The more regular way still is to print to a postscript-printer (localhost or acrobatPDF) and then distill it with the right joboptions. I've had the same trouble with the export-function in Quark.
Now I have a from origin WORD doc that is converted to PDF with PDF creator - GNU-Ghostscript 7.05. and I get black backgrounds under images.
Because I do not have the native doc I want to remove these backgrounds in the most simple way. Any suggestions?

    thanks jon for your response

Could you be more specific with "checking" overprint and trapping. I have tried this with overprint turned on and off. And unless I am mistaken, with just one picture box on the page, overprint and trapping should not be an issue.

For example, I can create a simple instance of the situation, a picture box with no fill. When I check my separations in acrobat (after creating .ps and distilling), I have the picture with a solid black object the same shape as the picture box underneath. It isnt visible unless I check the separations. If i print directly from quark, i dont have the problem (i know this because i have tested printing separations directly to my printer)

I have also found a workaround. If I create a .ps file (same as described above), but uncheck the box in distiller "let .ps override adobe distill options" the black boxes magically disappear. Could this be an OPI issue?

I am losing it over this. I have found a workaround but would like to uncover the source. I have posted on the quark forums to no avail.

Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated. Am I the only one with this issue??
