There are Bluetooth USB dongles; you plug it into a free USB port and
presto, you have Bluetooth. Not nearly as attractive as a built-in
option, however.

yes, you can buy an USB Bluetooth adapter (the MS Mouse comes with one)

afaik no, except the USB adapters

yes, you'll need OS X.2.x

Now, the remaining question would be if such a dongle/adapter would work if
a USB splitter were used.

what do you mean by USB splitter? A USB Hub? that should work.
