Default Book Packaging problem - image duplication

Using InDesign CS with WIN XP.

I've got some A3 (small format) and some A1 (large format) documents in an InDesign Book. Some images are used in more than one document.

When I package for print, I get duplicates of images that are used in more than one document. The duplicate images have a different filename - it adds a '1' to the end of the name - but exactly the same Modified Time ie. original 'image01.tif' becomes 'image011.tif'.

This means that my Links folder for the Package is enormous, and I have to scroll through the list of Links deleting the duplicates. It's very time consuming as I've used about 200 images in the Book.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Default Re: Book Packaging problem - image duplication

I forgot to say, the problem is not solved if I delete the Duplicates. When I open one of the documents in the InDesign Book, it asks for 'image011.tif' even though that image was never placed by me.

I've tried creating a new Book, with two documents, each containing the same image, and then Packaging. The same problem does not re-occur.

    Any help much appreciated.
