Default Book Publishing Software; The right one

I've used InDesign and PageMaker, recently and long-ago, for small catalogues and booklets. but now i am going to be doing 2 book projects. One of the books will be 250-300 pages. the 2nd is not known, but will be much more. They are Medical (Eastern) and Massage books, so they will have many images and artwork.

Can InDesign handle a book this size?

Should i switch to FrameMaker? PageMaker?
advantages? I read up on FrameMaker, but I want to hear more personal experiences.

    Thanks,

It really all depends. Will you be doing the illustrations in InDesign? If so, that's a plus to InDesign. Do you need a lot of automation when it comes to cross references, running headers, and other structured things then that would be a plus for Framemaker.

They both have their advantages and weaknesses and the decision has to be made on a case to case basis.

Also, do you know one app better than the other? You have to include the learning curve.

One thing is certain, both InDesign and Frame can handle that big of a project, the question is just if one is quicker than the other.

Forget about PageMaker - that is dead software for old machines and old operating systems and not for today's need.
InDesign can handle this. Just have each chapter in its own document and use the book feature to assemble the book.

I think Framemaker is no longer supported anyway. Could be wrong though.

There sure is no FrameMaker for OSX on the Mac and will not be either.
