Re: Bookmark: Engish words appear as Chinese? characters
Description, step by step:
1) I uninstalled the application and re-installed thinking it might’ve been an installation ‘bug’ but to no avail, so:
2) Open existing pdf file, name About Devonthink Pro
3) Click bookmark icon on side toolbar
4) Click on file text and highlight phrase (using mouse/cursor), for example: WHAT’S NEW
5) Press Cmd+B
6) Bookmark appears as ??????????
6.1) ABOUT DEVONthink appears as ????????????????
7) Curiously when I press Cmd+B again. WHAT’S NEW appears as the bookmark, as it should be/ Then continuing to press Cmd+B it alternates, appearing first as the characters then WHAT’S NEW
8) Pressing Cmd+B (without having previously highlighted text) creates a bookmark in the usual way the word ‘untitled’ appearing.
Anything else you need to know?

PS
??????????
Although I cut and paste the characters into the box to post on this forum, they appear as ????? but in practice the characters are not question marks but 'chinese' characters

Re: Bookmark: Engish words appear as Chinese? characters
This is a known issue with Acrobat Pro 8 on mactel machines and Adobe is aware of the issue. The same issue does not happen on Power PC Macs, just the new Mactel machines.
The work around is after the new bookmark is created with 2 byte characters, you can deselect the text and then select the text again then copy and paste it to replace the existed 2 byte text.

Re: Bookmark: Engish words appear as Chinese? characters
Thank you. Presumably Adobe will release an update to fix the issue in due course?

I'm sorry but I don't undderstand what you are saying. It may be a language abrrier: would it be possible for you or someone to rephrase?.
The way around it for me is to do Cmd+B again on the same bookmark which then appears as the text should then delete the 'chinese' characters.

Re: Bookmark: Engish words appear as Chinese? characters
Michael,
Happy to rephrase the work around to hopefully make more sense.
1. after the bookmark is created and it has the chinese characters
2. Deselect any selected text in the PDF
3. Select the text you want the bookmark name to use.
4. copy the selected text (edit>copy is one way)
5. Edit the bookmark name created with the chinese characters by pasting the newly selected text into the bookmark name.
Your way works too though. <grin>
Cheers
Jeff
