No, and heck no. Illustrator is a barely adequate program to create brochures. Much better programs include QuarkXPress, InDesign, FreeHand, CorelDraw, and PageMaker.
I would not recomend one book to learn two such differing programs. Adobe's Classroom in a Book series is highll regarded.

Just to expand a little on Scott's post, Illustrator is essentially a
single-page application (You can create multiple pages using page-tiling,
but it isn't as flexible as a proper page make-up application such as
InDesign), whose primary purpose is to create vector illustrations.
No matter what make-up application you use, you will in all probability need
Photoshop for image prep, but it certainly isn't an application for creating
brochures in.

If you have lots of text, InDesign would be better.
