Buying a secondhand SLR
I would like to buy a secondhand SLR camera. I'm not fussed about
autofocus, but want decent metering and the highest optical quality
possible. I have a budget of up to £300 ($490). Any suggestions?

Pentax Spotmatic. That is a pro quality camera (and system). All
manual, though.
Lots of top quality fixed focus lenses are available used. The 28mm
and 135mm often go for quite a bit less than $100 on eBay.
Back in the 1960s when I was a kid, I did not have such choice! You
are lucky.

Re: Buying a secondhand SLR
If you are willing to look and sift through things.. I would reccommend
going to EBAY. I just picked up a Canon Elan7e with a 28-90mm EF lens for
less than $400. This camera is like brand new and takes beautiful
pictures... (When I learn to use the camera properly, it will take
beautiful photographs.. LOL).

Re: Buying a secondhand SLR
You can get a Minolta X-700. It is very cheap and it has almost the same
function as Nikon FA, which is much more expensive used. And you can
get some Minolta manual focus lens on ebay at cheap price.
However, under your budget, I would recommend you to get a Autofocuse
camera like Minolta Dynax 5 with a 24-50mm lens or 24-105mm lens. Dynax 5
has "decent metering" and the lens are "highest optical quality" and not
very expensive.
Ming.

For 300 quid you can buy a nice Nikon FE2 and a couple of nikkor lens the
FE2 pay not more than £180 £40 for a 50mm lens F1.8 or the F2 the rest on
maybe a Nikkor 135mm F3.5
