Bypass Adobe downloads on launch

How can I bypass the Adobe online web downloads on launching Illustrator 10.01? It drives me wild to try to launch and the beach ball spins for half and hour. Even if I hit cancel immediately, the beach ball spins until I finally force quit. This happens with Photoshop as well.

I have a constant, fast cable connection, plenty of ram and hard drive and a G4 867. OS 10.2.8

Is there a keyboard command to use when launching to bypass this? a preference to throw away? This is really a problem.

Leslie do a search for Illustrator quits on launch. The answer has been posted many times. Also try the FQA.

I had that problem too. I followed a prior post's advice and now all is
good.

I have solved this problem, by removing my network cable. This wil allow
Illustrator to pass the crashing download procedure.

With Illustrator now running, set the preferences:online settings 'Check
for updates' to 'Never'. Now it will never again automatically try to
crash the application

Remember to reinsert the network cable after the procedure.
