reason given is that the A series AF drive is no longer available so
they have to convert the lens to a series 4. Whatever that may mean.
Seems a little off the wall to me

Ouch! ...but it is still way cheaper than getting a new one.

Let us know if you ever give up on it, as I think many here would be happy
to use it as a manual AF lens for the right price.

    You may like to try...

I know the Gold Coast is a long way from you, but the guy who does the
lenses here is a former Canon tech and really knows his stuff. It could be
    worth the freight?

Hmmm..... how to say that this guy is a joke without slandering his name ?

What was wrong with Legend ? They do excellent alignment on lenses.

And yet it has been around for as long as I can remember. Strange. An
Insular Peninsular thing I suppose. We don't like to travel.
    But now..crossed off my list.

I haven't been to them yet. Canon has had the lens since last you suggested
them. Was just looking for options and recommendations. However, I shall
now take it into Legends for a quote. Thanks.
