SunOS you have doesn't even support that hardware. Another
good reason to use something slightly less ancient. :-)

Re: Can anyone help? :Sparc 5 Solaris 1.1/SunOS 4.1.3
Hi did you use the same boot disk??? for Sparc 10 and Sparc 5?
Cause the S10 is a machine type 72 and the s5 is a 80..
Maybe.... it helps..
But why not a Solaris 2.x version with a complete kernel???

and is certainly Y2K safe.
Even the older SunOS 4.1.3c and SunOS 4.1.4 have Y2K patches, but they
also run fine without the Y2K patches.

Re: Can anyone help? :Sparc 5 Solaris 1.1/SunOS 4.1.3
Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for... a definitive answer...
not the answer I wanted but definitive!
As you can probably quess I am new to this platform, I was wondering if you
could tell me where a person would look for information like this. I don't
mind asking for the occational question but I'd rather try and find the
answsers in some form of reference. For instantance, you new that version
4.1.4 was needed for the sparc5, probably from experience, but how or where
did you find that info? I have looked on the internet but I have not had a
lot of luck finding what I need.
Thanks for any info you can give me. - Jack Holmgren

Re: Can anyone help? :Sparc 5 Solaris 1.1/SunOS 4.1.3
Hi Casper,
Thank you again for the valuable information, I will now go a read
http://sunsolve.sun.com I am sure it will answer most if not all the
questions that I would other wise bother you with. There is a message left
here by Rich Teer and it sounds to me like he thinks I somehow slighted you,
When I said, "Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for... a
definitive answer...
not the answer I wanted but definitive!" This was just my way of saying,
"Thank you, I wish I had the right Ver. of the OS (4.1.4) so I could get my
Sparc 5 going!" If this is not how it sounded then, I apologize profusely!!
(There truly is a reason for trying to get this SS5 working!)
Do you know what Rich Teer means by, " Don't top post"? I don't use the news
server much (does it show??) and if you can direct me to a place to read
able proper etiquette I will not bother this newsgroup until I have honed my
etiquette.

merely pointing out that the info Casper gave you was also
contained in my original answer to your first post. (The
bit about SS5s not being supported.)
Top posting is what broken clients like Outhouse do by> Do you know what Rich Teer means by, " Don't top post"? I don't use the news
default, i.e., they put your response to a message on
top of the stuff you're replying to, rather than underneath
it. That makes it hard for people to follow the thread.
What I'm doing - called inline posting - is much prefered.
You can clearly see the context of what I'm saying. Here's
an example:
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What's the most annoying thing on Usenet and in email?
Dunno about you, but in my experience, answers usually come
AFTER questions, not before. :-)

For interesting values of "support"?
The SS10 with two SM81 I'm typing this on seems to work just fine
with 4.1.4 (yes, single kernel mutex etc. etc., but it works).

SunOS 4.x kernels. You're just not likely to hit them.
