Can anyone help with this Place > ReplaceSelected Item for RTF file?
Searched the forum, the support site, the horoscope column...no good answer to this question:
I have an RTF file linked via Place in an IDCS2 doc. The text spans 3 linked text frames and two pages. So I place a new file, check the Replace Selected Items and Use Import Options boxes, make sure the Preset I created is selected in the RTF Import Options dialog, then click OK.
The cursor is loaded. The selected text frame is not replaced. Whether I click in the selected text frame or anywhere on the page, the text is placed as a new story.
Sorry, maybe this is a really dumb question, but am I trying to do something that isn't possible? Is "Replace Selected Item" only for graphics?
Thanks for any help.

Why not just rename the new file the same as the old and just overwrite
the old file. Update the link and you're done.

Re: Can anyone help with this Place > ReplaceSelected Item for RTF file?
Roger - You say the cursor is loaded. That to me indicates you have not selected the content in the frame but the frame only. Select instead the content, with text-cursor, then place and replace selected.

Thank you so much, Nini! Of course it works now (your solution also worked, Bob, thanks, although I really wanted to know what I was doing wrong inside ID) -- and the answer was so simple and logical. After this project is done, I will be taking my brain to the repair shop for a 50,000-mile checkup.
