Can connect to FTP site in Dreamweaver but notContribute
I have connected to a site using Dreamweaver 8 but I can't connect to the same
site with Contribute 3????
I am using the same setting etc, and it obviously connects because I get to
the last section where it asks for the Remote Path Information, and it comes up
with all of the files and directories when I click on Choose, but when I select
the root directory and click finish I get an error that says "Contribute cannot
verify your connection information....." how can this be when I connect fine to
the exact same site and can edit the files in Dreamweaver?

Re: Can connect to FTP site in Dreamweaver but notContribute
Hi,
One important setting that you need to look for while creating a connection is
that in Contribute, the WebRoot and the FTP root should be the same. Check this
and try to create a connection

Re: Can connect to FTP site in Dreamweaver but notContribute
Hi Astro - I am suffering from the same problem. I have our company site
hosted, at an ISP. However, we just upgraded our firewall software, which
closed down my access through DW. The firewall has been reconfigured, and now I
can access our site using DW, but not C3. So my guess is, that the firewall is
playing me a trick. Have you checked you firewall settings ??

Re: Can connect to FTP site in Dreamweaver but notContribute
Idorn: Contribute "hides" the firewall settings. To get to them Edit your
connection, then on the FTP details screen click the 'Advanced...' button. You
should be able to set Firewall settings there - for example you may need to
select "Passive FTP" to set up Proxy settings. Talk to the guys who upgraded
the firewall about what you need.
Astro: Contribute doesn't think the website address you entered at step 2
corresponds to the root folder you've chosen. This is what Sudharshan means by
matching the web root and FTP root. Check the site address!

Re: Can connect to FTP site in Dreamweaver but notContribute
Are we getting wires crossed here? The "root folder" isn't your website address
or the server IP address. It's the folder on your server where the website
lives and will contain your website homepage. If you give a web/IP address for
"root folder" it won't work.
If it helps it should match the "Host directory" you specified in Dreamweaver
under "Remote Info" (you could, I guess, try copying the details you've got
there).
If you're *definitely* in the right root folder something else is going on.
Maybe firewall settings?? But it sounds like something specific to you/your
site. You probably need to get someone to look specifically at your set-up.
Sorry.

This solved the problem for me! THANKS!
To explain my situation:
When asked to type the URL to my website, i used the "public" URL,
http://www.futuregamerclan.co.nr.
Now, at the final stage for setting up a connection, got an error.
Now the thing is that my "actual" URL to the site is www.home.no/futuregamer
(www.futuregamerclan.co.nr is just forwarding to the "real" adress). That was
the problem.
So, by typing www.home.no/futuregamer when asked for the URL to the site, it
worked.
I'm bad at explaining stuff, but hope it helped.
