Can Contribute manage large site
Hi All,
I recently started working as content manager for a college that had purchased
Contribute Publishing Server and Contribute as a content management system. We
will have about 50 contributors and approx. 7000 pages to be maintained.
My prior company used Fatwire, which seemed more suited to this, it was
database driven.
Can Contribute handle a site this large? The site is in PHP with and uses a
lot of PHP includes to manage content. Will Library Items work better, or is
the site too large?
Can library items be saved in each folder and managed by the individual
content providers?
Any input at all would be appreciated.
Thanks all.

Re: Can Contribute manage large site
Can Contribute handle a site this large?
Our site has 50+ users and 20,000+ files. The bigger the site gets, the more
trouble we have. But on the bright side, Contribute support has been very
helpful in addressing most of our problems.
The site is in PHP with and uses a lot of PHP includes to manage content.
Will Library Items work better, or is the site too large?
I've personally always found that includes work better than library items. You
make a change to an include, and you only have to upload that. You make a
change to a library item, and you have to update all pages that use it and
reupload them all. But you can't add includes to the page in Contribute. No
messing with dynamic elements at all. You might be able to have an include
inside a library item, though. That might work.
Can library items be saved in each folder and managed by the individual
content providers?
No. Library items go at the root of the site. To have separate library
folders, you need separately defined sites. You can, however, define which
library items are available to which roles.

Re: Can Contribute manage large site
Thanks for your input. We are almost ready to launch and I wanted confirmation
that it would be OK.
I find the way around working on includes it to bookmark the url in
Contribute, and saving that bookmark on the contributors pages. It will show
up as raw text, but at least they can find it and edit it . I use this on key
content that shared - such as a list of scholarships. Then that include can be
embedded in 10 different pages, but one owner is responsible for updates to it.
Thanks again.

Re: Can Contribute manage large site
We also let the users edit the includes, although it took a while for them to
get used to the fact that there's no look-and-feel to those pages. But the only
way we've found to add them to pages is through Dreamweaver, so the webmasters
have to do that part for the users.
