Can I make smaller pdf files from existing pdf?
Hi,
I have a PageMaker file that I need to make into a pdf that ends up being less than a MB. It is a catalog with many pages. When I previously made a pdf, the file size was 2.2 MBs. I downsized all the placed images to 72 dpi and the pdf file was still too large. So then I unlinked all the photos and made a new pdf and was able to get it to 1.4 MB. Still too large. I chose the smallest file settings in the distiller. Is there any way to take the 1.4 pdf file and make it into a smaller pdf?
Thank you,
Maria

What version of Acrobat do you own. If 6 or 7, look for the pdf
optimizer. It has different settings for shrinking the file size.

I'm using Acrobat 7 Professional. Where do I look for the pdf optimizer?

Maria,
Look at Advanced -> PDF Optimizer.

Re: Can I make smaller pdf files from existing pdf?
I think the PDF Optimizer is the same in both of those locations. I tried them both and my pdf isn't getting smaller. I think since I had already unlinked the images in PageMaker, there isn't anything left to compress.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Can I make smaller pdf files from existing pdf?
Maria,
There are different settings for you to choose in the PDF Optimizer. You
need to play with the settings to get the smallest file with acceptable
fidelity.

Re: Can I make smaller pdf files from existing pdf?
Good job guys,
In Acrobat 9 it's: Advanced->Print pro->Optimize
Yes it works if you change the picture resolution (mainly) to the default (150 ppi) or even less, if you need(it wont look great, but would be a usable low resolution pdf).
You can check other catigories as well, like: discard hidden layer info. And use the ones that are checked as default.
