Can I replace a castmember on the stage? - Macromedia Director Basics

I want to change the cast member of a sprite (in the authoring environment). Currently I have to drag a new member onto the stage, set all its sprite properties to that of the original sprite, attach all the same behaviours and set their parameters identically, then delete the original sprite and move the replacement to fill the gap. This is very long winded. - Is there a simpler way to do this? I want to change the cast member of a sprite (in the authoring environment).

Currently I have to drag a new member onto the stage, set all its sprite properties to that of the original sprite, attach all the same behaviours and set their parameters identically, then delete the original sprite and move the replacement to fill the gap.

This is very long winded. - Is there a simpler way to do this?

I have tried sprite(X).member = member(Y) from the message window which appears to work at first, but the changes only last until I move the playhead, whenceforth the sprites revert to their original cast members.

    Any help gratefully accepted

Yes, under the Edit menu, towards the bottom there is an Exchange Cast Member option (apple-e on the Mac). If you select a sprite in your score, and a cast member and do Exchange Cast Member the selected cast will be put in the score.

I needed to replace a swf button with different lingo programming associated on a number of pages. I copy/pasted the cast member to create a new cast member, replaced the old cast member on the stage. I then went to the score, selected the new cast member and copy/pasted it to all the pages that needed replacing. All new cast members replaced the old in the same spot. Quick and dirty way of getting the job done.
