Can I run two copies of Cs in OSX ?
OSX.3.3 Dual 800 G4 1.5 G (RAM)
First, can I install CS twice, in different folders of course? Or do I have to do it using two users?
My reason is this: I want to be able to run the program either totally stripped down (out of the box) or with all the extra plugins such as mapublisher which sometimes cause performance issues.
Will this work? Is there some trick to keeping the pref files seperate? Renaming?
Then, what if I've got two working copies; can I run them at the same time? This last idea is not at all necessary and may even violate the copyright, but I'm curious.
Thanks,
Joe

No
First, you would new 2 serial numbers.
Second, it would not work in the first place even with 2 licenses.

A plug ins manager would be a good feature request.

Re: Can I run two copies of Cs in OSX ?
I can run many of my old system 9 programs dually , why not Illustratr 10 or CS in OSX? I suppose I should just try it, but I've just gone through the process of reinstalling and upgrading my system and all of the software and don't want to screw anything up.; For instance, did you know that if you run an archive and install of panther it will remove some of the drag and drop feqatures of Photoshop Cs, or maybe it was just my system. But, I digress...
It should work with a new user though shouldn't it?

In my opinion,
You just shouldn't have duplicate anything on one hard drive. It's just clutter.
It doesn't make sense to me.
But listen to John Kallios, he knows what he's taling about.
Don't go screwing up your PC for it. "Yah, I know you have a Mac"
Ha!

Re: Can I run two copies of Cs in OSX ?
Version 10 and CS can run at the same time. But, 2 copies of the SAME version cannot.
Both application will try to use the same files need to run the application.
Don't take my word for it, an Adobe Illustrator engineer posted in the past that it will not work.

Re: Can I run two copies of Cs in OSX ?
They will use the same preference for sure that would really mess things up and you were never able to run two copies of the same application at the same time you can run them at separate times. You would probably have to swap the preferences though.
If you try to launch both at the same time then you will get the message that another copy of the same program is running and the second copy won't launch, you would have quit the other copy.
You can have two copies with different plug ins installed but you will only be able to launch one at a time as you have only one license.
I think John might be misunderstanding what you want to achieve. But I don't know if this is against any license provision or not. I can't see why it would since it is for the same user.
But be wary of the preferences and perhaps the application support folder.

Re: Can I run two copies of Cs in OSX ?
Running them both at the same time is only an afterthought. My real intent is make a workaround for the Plugins manager that Wade suggests. The only real use I might have for runnig it dually is the excessive reprojecting time using Mapublisher .
The pref file (and maybe the support folder) as you suggest would indeed need to be replaced back and forth each time I switched.
I'll give it a try some tiem next week.
thanks
