Can I safely trash all those printer files in /Library/Printers?

    As long as the printer comes with the driver. You can't reinstall the
    drivers from the OS X install disk.

    Any reason why you want to get rid of them? They don't take up much
    space.

    Thanks.

    Actually, my ./Library/Printers folder (not ./System/Library/Printers)
    is over 500 MB. I'm trying to slim down my system for backup purposes.

    Yes, and you can run the printer installer packages on the second Jaguar
    installer CD without going through the full installation process of
    booting from the first CD. You can also save a lot of disk space just by
    deleting unneeded language support (.lproj) files. The HP support files
    are particularly porky in this regard. Try Mike Bombich's DeLocalizer
    <http://software.bombich.com/local.html>.
