Can I scan a drawing and get the points on it?
Hey guys,
Still trying to learn here, so I'm sorry if I don't have the proper tech words. This is what I want in my end result: To scan a drawing and bring into Illustrator and be able to take it into InDesign where the back ground will not be white, but rather tansparent?
Can it be done? If so how?
I would appreciate any advise or comments.
Thanks.

AJ,
If you want to convert your scan to a vector file (with points) you will neet to learn how to use the pen tool and trace over the scan.

If all you want is to make the background transparent, Photoshop would be a good start. You can make a clipping path from there.

Re: Can I scan a drawing and get the points on it?
if you run os 9, you could use streamline. i don't know if there's an os x version or not, but that's the fastest and easiest way to get a bitmap image to become vector. if you play with the settings enough, the results are quite acceptable.

On the second click, that is mouse down, hold the mouse down now drag.
Drag in the opposite direction you think you should be dragging if you have problems having it make the curve you want.
