Can I Tile With an JPG Image

I'm making a poster with Illustrator 10, and would like to have a pattern background. Is it possible to tile a JPG image in Illustrator? It seems to only want to let me use a vector image to tile with...

You may find this too primitive, but using the Transform platte for accuracy you can place multiple copies of the image without gaps; once you have a few of them placed correctly, you can start copying several at a time. Should not take too long. You can also drag the image into the Symbols palette and pick it from there; in that way it will also be ready for later use.

Scale the image you wanna use as a tile. Then drag n drop it in the swatches palette. Draw any shape, fill with the created swatch. Done!

The swatches thing doesn't seem to work with a bitmap image. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Illistrator 10...

Check to see if the image is imbedded. If you place it linked you can't make a pattern swatch with it.
