Can iPhoto handle BMP files? - Mac Applications & Software

My wife backed up a lot of photos on here Windoze box to a CD-R, now that we have a couple of powerbooks, we've tried reading them there. The .jpg pics work fine, but the .bmp files don't. Is there a way of using these on OSX, either directly or by converting? There's something called GraphicConverter US on the powerbooks, but it's baffling. Does it do graphics convertion? (;-) I can see it in the Finder, and when I double-click on it, I see the usual flashing rectangles, but no window appears....

GraphicConverter does the conversions. It's also a pretty good graphics
editor. You might want to visit <http://www.lemkesoft.de> and download
the latest version. GraphicConverter is shareware and you'll have a
trial period available before you register.

GraphicConverter takes a bit of learning to find all its functions but
it is well worth learning. GC can do a truely astonding number of
things for you. It has a very usfull set of batch converstions it can
    exicute.
Look in the GraphicConverter application folder and you will find a
very detailed manual called "User's manual.pdf".
    Good luck too you
