Can no longer edit

I will gladly give an Amazon book token for solution. I bought Con 3 18 months
ago but only installed it in last few months. Now that Adobe have launched Con
4 support not offered, so I've lost the paddle and can't even find the creek.
Worked fine to start, but now my client (Publisher) receives message : "You
can?t edit this page now because XYZ is currently editing it. Please contact
bla bla".
If I go into Con on my PC I see "You can't edit this page now because you are
already editing it on another computer." All I have done is obviously pick up
text amendments from my client to keep us both in sync but I have changed
nothing in permissions.
No doubt this is simple to you clever geeks out there, but Life is short and
simple here in UK. Help most gratefully received (and remember the bribe).

this error usually comes up when someone else is editing the page, contribute
is applying the check-in check out feature so that the the other user will not
be able to edit the same page
you will also receive this error when contribute crashes when a user edits a
page.

however if nobody else is editing it, a lock file might have been generated,
which will not let you edit the file because it thinks that it is being edited
by a diff user.

you might want to delete the lock file using contribute or your ftp server or
try following the step below:

To delete a lock file:

1. Using Contribute, browse to the page you want to unlock.

2. At the end of the page?s URL, append the .lck extension to the filename in
the Contribute browser such as [url]www.mysite.com/index.htm.lck[/url].

3. Contribute displays the File Placeholder Page.
The File Placeholder Page appears when Contribute encounters a file type that
it can?t open.
Because the Contribute lock file is of a special type, Contribute cannot
display it.

4. Select File > Delete Page.
Note: This menu item is disabled if you do not have permission to delete pages
from your website.
If this is the case, you must enable file deletion for the user?s permission
group.
An alert asks whether you are certain that you want to delete the file.

5. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the file.
Another alert appears, warning that you are deleting a special file and asking
if you want
to proceed.

6. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the file.
Contribute deletes the lock file and displays the last page you viewed.

I am most grateful for this, but before I delete any files, it seems easier to
go to ftp server (file manager) where all files are laid out. Are you
suggesting that I delete ALL files with suffix .LCK?

Right that seems to have cured it: most grateful. I had to delete over 100 .LCK
files, pages and images, off the ftp server (website has 80 pages with hundreds
of jpgs.) I am sure this will happen again so I'm still baffled. I will email
you privately to offer token.
