I am running both AI 10.0.3 and CS no problem.either way I removed Stickies but I have Mail and no problem with CS or 10.0.3.

It is some wrong with your permissions or with a third party software, the latter is what UI suspect as you probably both have that software installed.

    Wade,
when you say "the latter is what I suspect as you probably both have that software installed" Are you just reffering to a third party sofware of some type, or some thing more specific. What's tipping you off that it may be a third party software?

The two of you are having this problem and that is not the usual behavior but you are using different versions of the same application these two versions happen to have to different type engines hence it is not probably the way AI handles text and fonts but a problem probably elsewhere.

    Does that make sense?

This is a shot in the dark, based on Wade's input, but are you running Netscape Navigator or Communicator concurrently with AI? Netscape has been known to create font problems on other open applications, so maybe it's the common culprit when copying text in this case? If the problem fixes itself with Netscape shut down that could be it.

    Wade,
Ya that makes sense, but it leaves me stumped. Oh well not the end of the world.

    Jonf,
No go bro. Don't even have them installed. Thanks though

    Wade,
After thinking a bit more on this, I think you are right about the type engine not being the problem, but I believe, like I've said earlier, that it has something to do with how Illustrator saves pretty much everything in a PDF format to the clipboard when you save something. Then when I paste it into another ap that can support PDF or PICT file OSX (I think) prioritizes the PDF or PICT format. When the application does not support PDF or PICT it I can paste editable text.

So the question is how do I change that priority?

Perhaps a corrupt preference folder. Try Creating a new account and log in there don't add or configure the account in anyway just leave as is and the ope AI and see if you guys can do it if so you might be able to locate the culprit. yOu would have to give the new account administrative privileges and copy the preference folder from your current user account to the new one's desktop then copy a few of the preferences from the old copy to the new preferences folder on the new account.

This I agree wis a little tricky and I myself have not tried it so I am not certain it will work but it is easy enough to try without disrupting your current configuration.

    Wade,
I created a new user and opened Illustrator, copied some text, and pasted it into text edit same deal. It pastes as a graphic not editable text. So I'd guess that continuing with this test really wouldn't help out much then hu?

I've been having this problem since switching to lion and it has been driving me mad!!

Discovered that if you open text editor preferences and makes sure you set all documents to standard text document (txt) rather that rich text (rtfd) it will paste in fine as text rather than as an image.

This is a huge pain the arse as it means I have to copy and paste into text editor and then emails etc. Sucks!
