Can not open index.cfm or Hello.cfm - Coldfusion - Getting Started

I have followed the cfdocs\installing ColdFusion MX instruction and have successfully configured the IIS for ColdFusion. Also, I have verified that cf_root/runtime/lib/wsconfig/jrun.dll was created and application mappings for .cfm, .cfml, .cfc, and .jsp were added. Typing http://localhost/cfide/administrator/index.cfm, localhost:8500/..., or localhost:8100/... showed the following error: HTTP 500 - Internal server error . I created a Hello.cfm file and tested it. The browser showed the same error. <head> <title>A ColdFusion Page</title> </head> <body> <strong>Hello world, this is a ColdFusion page.</strong> <br> <cfoutput> Today's date is #DateFormat(Now())# </cfoutput> </body> </html> Previewing the Hello.cfm in Dreamweaver MX showed: Hello world, this is a ColdFusion ...

    I have followed the cfdocs\installing ColdFusion MX instruction and have
    successfully configured the IIS for ColdFusion.
    Also, I have verified that cf_root/runtime/lib/wsconfig/jrun.dll was created
    and application mappings for .cfm, .cfml, .cfc, and .jsp were added.
    Typing http://localhost/cfide/administrator/index.cfm, localhost:8500/..., or
    localhost:8100/... showed the following error:
    HTTP 500 - Internal server error .
    I created a Hello.cfm file and tested it. The browser showed the same error.
    <head>
    <title>A ColdFusion Page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <strong>Hello world, this is a ColdFusion page.</strong>
    <br>
    <cfoutput> Today's date is #DateFormat(Now())# </cfoutput>
    </body>
    </html>

    Previewing the Hello.cfm in Dreamweaver MX showed:
    Hello world, this is a ColdFusion page.
    Today's date is {text}

    Apparently, the ColfFusion was not working. Why?

    TIA,

    Did you startup coldfusion?

    How do I start Coldfusion?

    I did check the Control Panel->Administrative Tools-> Services. IIS Admin was
    automatically "started".

    BTW, I remember the first time I downloaded the Colffusion installation file,
    it was a binary .exe file. After installation, clicking the START-> All
    Programs -> Coldfusion, there were a 'Start Coldfusion', a 'Stop Coldfusion'
    programs. Clicking Start Coldfusion, showed the Windows was searching or
    browsering the Coldfusion program. I finally uninstalled the 'binary'
    Coldfusion and installed the current 'offline?' Coldfusion program, which has 3
    IE web site (administrator, doentatiom, getting started, and a 'Performance
    Monitor.'

    I am wondering, is there an icon or START program to start the Coldfusion?
    TIA,
    Jeffrey

    First, I did check the Control Panel->Administrative Tools-> Services.
    ColdFusion MX Application Server, ColdFusion MX ODBC Agent and ColdFusion MX
    ODBC Server were all automatically "started". "HTTP 500 - Internal server
    error" probably was caused by my Internet connection problem.

    After restarted my PC, the ColdFusion seemed to be working, but with a CFML
    syntax error. Any suggestion for my Hello.cfm or index.cfm?

    You're going to have to post the syntax error and bit of code that's throwing
    the error for us to have any chance in helping you. There's no way we can see
    the problem unless you show it to us.

    Glad you got Coldfusion running, now we just have to get these first test
    pages working...

    I finally found out, although http://localhost/cfide/administrator/Hello.cfm
    (or index.cfm) did not work,
    http://localhost/cfdocs/getting_started/my_app/Hello.cfm (and other cfm files I
    created) worked very well.

    cJeffreywang,

    The full error message definitely helped. See this tech note

    Thanks.

    The ColdFusion MX update 6.1 has worked very well. Now I can open the administrator.index.cfm and solved the datasource problem. Also I can open CFIDE/administrator/Hello.cfm now.
