Can old (1994-95) FreeHand files be opened?

Default Can old (1994-95) FreeHand files be opened?

A customer has sent me a large number of FreeHand drawings that are about 10
years old (from the time Aldus still owned FreeHand). They want to me to edit
them, but they will not open with FreeHand 10 or 11. When I try to open them
from within either version of the program, the icons are "grayed out" as if
they are not recognized. Yet, when I put them in MacLink Plus, they are
recognized as FreeHand files there.

Is there any filter or workaround that anyone knows about for old files?

Thanks in advance.

I would try and get a demo copy of Freehand 3 to open these files. You can try www.freehandsource.com for older installers or check the Macromedia site.

The only one I know of is to use an intermediate version of FH to update
the files to its own level. AFAIK FHv8 will open pretty much any
earlier-version document (certainly at least as far back as v3.1); if
there's no demo available from MM any more, a used copy can probably be
found -- and pretty inexpensive at that. Versions 10 & 11 should be able
to open v8 documents.

My site has been down for a little while now, trying to work out what
the problem is. Until then, visit the other links provided to help with
that.
